Mastercard joins Startup Canada in recognizing innovative policy leaders at the Fifth Annual Startup Canada Awards
May 7th, 2018 – Startup Canada, the national rallying community and voice for Canada’s entrepreneurs, today announced that Mastercard will join the Fifth Annual Startup Canada Awards as title sponsor for the Startup Canada Policy Prize. The prize is awarded to government officials – political or within the public service – at all levels of government who have demonstrably advanced Canadian entrepreneurship through their policy leadership.
The Awards are the hallmark event celebrating outstanding achievements in Canada’s entrepreneurship and innovation community. Every year, the Awards attract hundreds of nominations; celebrate dozens of entrepreneurs, innovators, and support organizations from coast-to-coast-to-coast; and attract more than 1,500 attendees and 4,000 online viewers at regional and national ceremonies.
“Over the last five years, the Startup Canada Awards have recognized hundreds of leading entrepreneurs, innovators, and support providers who have worked relentlessly to grow their companies, and invested time to support and champion up-and-coming leaders,” said Victoria Lennox, CEO and Co-Founder of Startup Canada. “We are proud to work with sponsors like Mastercard to amplify a new cohort of winners in 2018.”
“Entrepreneurs and innovators are critical to Canada’s economic future,” said Jennifer Sloan, vice president of Public Policy for Mastercard in Canada. “As governments create the environment in which entrepreneurs can thrive, we are particularly happy to be sponsoring the Startup Canada Policy Prize, which recognizes the leaders in this space.”
Grassroots Regional Awards ceremonies will be hosted by entrepreneur support partners in cities across Canada this Spring. The Awards ceremony schedule is as follows:
- June 7 | Atlantic Region, hosted by Startup Miramichi in Miramichi, NB
- June 13 | Québec Region, hosted by La Gare in Montreal, QC
- June 20 | Ontario Region, hosted by Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation in Sault Ste Marie, ON
